From Cattelan to Zurbarán. Manifestations of Precarious Vitality.
The exhibition juxtaposes contemporary art – in the form of paintings, sculpture and film installations – with images from the 17th century. Curator Bice Curiger’s approach does away with the conventional emphasis on viewing the Baroque through the prism of style history and, in so doing, breaks with myriad clichés: here, the Baroque is not about pomp, ornamentation and gold, but rather ‘manifestations of precarious vitality’ – vitality lost, projected, lived, recognized or ‘threatened’ by death.
1 June – 2 September. Vernissage for members on 31 May, 7 p.m.
Public guided tours on Sundays at 11 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6 p.m.
The Filmpodium and the Kunsthaus Zürich have put together a cinema programme that perfectly complements the video and film works shown in the exhibition. For details and screening dates see www.filmpodium.ch.

Precursor of Romanticism
Adrian Zingg is one of the most important exponents of landscape between the European Enlightenment and Pre-Romanticism in Dresden. He explored the countryside around Dresden and produced numerous views of what has since become known as the Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland. His large-format sepia plates influenced an entire generation of artists, right through to Caspar David Friedrich.
25 May – 12 August. Vernissage for members on 24 May, 7 p.m.
Public guided tours: 31 May and 2 August, 6 p.m. (with curator Bernhard von Waldkirch), 10 June, 12 midday and 5 July, 6 p.m.

Time as Perspective
Born in Agrigento (Sicily), Rosa Barba works with the medium of film in a literal sense, for instance creating sculptures made from 16mm projectors or using film strips as a material. The twin themes of language and time invariably play an important role. The exhibition is the young Italian artist’s first solo show in Switzerland. At the heart of the presentation is a new film work which will be receiving its first showing in the Kunsthaus.
6 June – 9 September 2012. Vernissage for members on Tuesday 5 June, 7 p.m.
Public guided tours on 14 June, 6 p.m. and 8 July, 12 midday.

Prestigious contemporary art for the Kunsthaus extension
Over a 40-year period, patron of the arts and former businessman Hubert Looser has assembled a dazzling collection of contemporary art. His objective is to keep key groups of works and individual masterpieces of Abstract Expressionism, Minimal Art and Arte Povera together and make them available to the public on a long-term basis. Now, the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft and the Fondation Hubert Looser have signed an agreement under which the Kunsthaus Zürich can select 70 works from the private collection and exhibit them on long-term loan in the Kunsthaus extension.
The Looser Collection is currently receiving its first public showing at the Bank Austria Kunstforum in Vienna.
From 5 October, selected works will be on display in the Kunsthaus Zürich as part of the exhibition ‘The New Kunsthaus. Great Art and Architecture.’
