Kunsthaus Zürich

Welcome

Dear visitors

There’s growing excitement as the opening of our latest exhibition ‘Fashion Drive’ draws ever closer, and preparations are in full swing. With over two hundred loans, including some spectacular items from the Louvre, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Louis XIV’s palace at Versailles and the Berlin Museums, it’s a unique opportunity to experience extreme clothing in the visual arts.
Then it’s party time: tickets for our Fashion Ball on 5 May are almost sold out, so if you’re determined to don your most outlandish garb, be sure to drop by the Kunsthaus cash desk as soon as possible. Following the huge success of the temporary café in the entrance hall there’ll also be another surprise pop-up.

From the large exhibition gallery you have a perfect view of the remarkable construction site across the square, where David Chipperfield’s Kunsthaus extension is rapidly taking shape. The shell is set for completion in the second half of the year. Over the last few months we’ve put our medium- to long-term business plan into action and made some important staff appointments. We welcome the latest recruits to our Sales and Services, Sponsoring and Fundraising and HR departments, as well as a new curator for the Collection of Prints and Drawings and a new Head of Restoration.

There are still plenty of hidden gems amidst the Kunsthaus’s extensive collection. They include works by artists from the first third of the 20th century who have been labelled ‘naïve’ – unjustly so, as you’ll discover in the imposing galleries of the historic Moser building, where fascinating juxtapositions and startling parallels await: Adolf Dietrich and René Magritte, André Bauchant and Félix Vallotton, Salvador Dalí and Niklaus Stoecklin. Also in the collection, early July sees the start of a multi-stage project involving large-format installations of contemporary art, some of which have never been shown before.

Whatever your preferred pace, the Kunsthaus has something to suit you: from dynamic workshops for fashion victims to in-depth guided tours for art nerds. Join us on a journey through the world of art and meet other people along the way, on your next trip to the Kunsthaus!
