Kunsthaus Zürich

Welcome

Dear visitors

There’s hardly a museum anywhere in the German-speaking countries whose collection of Mexican graphic art can match ours for size and diversity. It was donated to us many years ago by the globetrotting photographer Armin Haab. Now, thanks to detailed research and support from sponsors, we’re ready to open up this treasure trove and present to you not just a complete catalogue of our holdings but also a compact exhibition of masterful art on paper that has lost none of its bite since its creation.

In 2017 we also celebrate one hundred years since the foundation of our patron association and Society of Friends, the Vereinigung Zürcher Kunstfreunde. The many magnificent works they have supplied to us on permanent loan are prominently displayed and now specially labelled as such; they include masterpieces by Manet, Chagall, Hodler, Fuseli, Böcklin, Munch, Mondrian and Baselitz.

Be sure not to miss our special display of the finest examples from our extensive Vallotton collection, recently enriched by a phenomenal key work thanks once again to the Society of Friends. Then there are the redesigned galleries for Alberto Giacometti: following our flagship exhibition, the largest public collection of his work now appears in an exciting new presentation.
There’s also plenty going on at the Kunsthaus over the summer. Our ‘Action!’ project is a new departure for us: some of the world’s best-known practitioners of this important art form will be coming face to face with young, experimental positions, transforming the large exhibition gallery and many areas of the Kunsthaus into a place of movement and interaction for a few weeks in June and July.

Looking further ahead, let me draw your attention to our ‘Cantastorie’ exhibition, which also features a wealth of music and theatre events to tie in with these dazzlingly colourful images, the products of an earthy form of folk art from southern Italy. Advance ticket sales for the concerts are open now. Demand is certain to be high, so make sure you book for the evening performances as soon as possible. It’s not long until the curtain rises at the Kunsthaus!

Kind regards
