During the past few years, great efforts were made to shift as many of our business processes as possible to electronic or partially electronic ones. Therefore, the IT domain has grown very rapidly and computer-aided work has taken hold in most of our departments.
My job is to make sure that the necessary infrastructure is available and in good working order, and to support our staff should they have questions or problems. Each morning I check each of our PC servers that store our data and house the applications needed on a daily basis. Of course, the security issue is of great concern and thus we need to update both our servers and working stations accordingly. Further security measures such as firewalls and anti-virus programs are implemented and maintained.
Next to these routine duties, there are always smaller and larger projects on the agenda: like IT related measures that allow for greater security and easier maintenance, or preparatory work to introduce museum administration specific software, or groundwork to make for a more user-friendly website – the most visible part of our IT domain.
