Museum Shop

The Shopmakers

Most museum visitors find that touching articles and rummaging through the shop to their heart’s content –as well as being able to buy – makes a pleasant end to their visit after the purely visual experience of the Collection or an exhibition. The young staff of the shop take great delight in contributing to this pleasure by ensuring that a wide variety of interesting articles are on offer – and putting together a special range for current exhibitions. For the large exhibitions, such as Cézanne, Alberto Giacometti and J.M.W. Turner in recent years, they have even set up a special exhibition shop to offer a range of products designed for the exhibition complemented by a number of exclusive Kunsthaus products, such as the Cézanne wine or the popular Giacometti bags.

When developing our own products we have to tread a fine line between art and commerce, and it isn’t always easy to meet the demands of all our customers. The shop-team sets great store by the quality of our goods and consequently usually works together with local producers who provide high-quality products.

Alongside the many postcards you can also find the Kunsthaus’s own products for the Collection. For example, visitors can buy fine silk scarves bearing reproductions of work by Klee, Vallotton and Monet. Bags cut from old advertising material are also specialities of the shop and the advertising material of the Turner exhibition – worked into a shoulder bag – turns up again in the shop. The number of items is limited and each bag is unique. So, a visit to the museum shop in the Kunsthaus foyer in the near future could be well worth your while.
