The faces behind the scenes
A brief glance behind the scenes at the Kunsthaus is sufficient to confirm that without electricians, painters, carpenters and good organization nothing would work at all. Technical services make a major contribution to ensuring that a new exhibition can be wholly staged in line with the curatorial concept. When it comes to setting up and dismantling an exhibition, time is of the essence and there’s not a moment to spare. Departmental head Ronald Arndt’s team frequently find themselves confronted with tricky situations, for example working together with restorers to carefully place an artwork.
Technical services maintains and monitors the air conditioning, lighting and alarm systems. “Our men behind the scenes” make a huge contribution to the well-being of museum visitors, who naturally take it for granted that the art on display will be shown in the best possible light. Our department always does its utmost to create the best possible atmosphere; however, unfortunately we are often forced to compromise, as our modest technical resources do not always allow us to accommodate the wishes of the exhibition head. But ultimately it’s always an exhilarating feeling when all of a sudden the impossible becomes possible and the museum visitor is able to enjoy another successful exhibition in our Kunsthaus.
