Kunsthaus Zürich

The Project's Organization

The organization of Phase II "Project Planning" has been set up:

Project Partnership for the Kunsthaus Expansion

On the 27th of October, at the conclusion of the architectural competition for the expansion of the Kunsthaus Zürich, the organizing committee of the expansion project restructured itself into a simple project partnership. Partners and hence principals are the city of Zurich, the association Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft (ZKG) and the foundation Stiftung Zurich Kunsthaus (SZK).

Simple project partnership for the Kunsthaus Expansion

With the establishment of the Project Partnership for the Kunsthaus Expansion (PPKE), the public and private partners of the Kunsthaus Zurich Expansion Project have set up an organization which is to assist in the project's construction phases. Having set the goal of realizing the expansion at the Heimplatz by 2017, the PPKE will develop the private design plans, will secure the financing and will oversee the construction project, as well as being  in charge of public relations and outreach. The partnership's contract holds that CHF 88 million of the entire budget  will be carried by the association Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft (ZKG). The city of Zurich will contribute CHF 88 million and will also take on potential inflationary costs on the entire loan estimated at CHF 178 million (target costs) resp. CHF 206 million (as per the construction cost index of April, 2011 incl. reserves). The canton will contribute 30 million CHF and, in addition, will provide the construction terrain. All of these prerequisites need to be secured prior to the beginning of construction. The Amt für Hochbauten (City Office for Building Construction) will be in charge of the actual execution of the Kunsthaus expansion.

The board of the principal building committee will include the mayor, Mrs. Corine Mauch, the city councilor, Dr. André Odermatt and city chief of staff, Mr. Norbert Müller. Walter B. Kielholz (head of the board) of the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft, and Dr. Christoph Becker, the Kunsthaus director, will represent the members' association. Dr. Martin Zollinger (from 5 October 2010) and Peter Ess will represent the foundation Zürcher Kunsthaus. Thomas U. Müller will be the chief executive officer of this simple project partnership. During the inaugural assembly of the board, the members of the construction project committee, headed by Wiebke Rösler, director of Zurich's Department of structural Engineering, were also appointed.
