Kunsthaus Zürich

Video Collection

Since 1979 video art is part of the collections of the Kunsthaus Zurich. Besides the orignal tapes in very different technical formats all video works in the collection exist as archive copies in the format Digital Betacam. For screenings DVD copies are used.

The works of the video art collection can be used in the multimedia study area of the library. For this purpose the library has DVD or VHS copies available. Circulation and screening outside the Kunsthaus Zürich is not possible for legal reasons.

In the multimedia study area there are 4 individual workplaces equipped with PC and VCR, but it is also possible, to book the room for small groups and to view videos together on a screen using a projector. For groups of more than 10 persons a larger room is available in the museum.

The copies for use of the works of video art acquired since 1997 can be found in the library's online catalogue. The older titles are catalogued in the card catalog in the library as well as in the published collection catalogue «Künstler-Videos: Entwicklung und Bedeutung». However step by step these records will be moved to the online catalogue too.
