Removal of the deposits, cleaning of the surface, color integration and conservation of the front side
- Vénus au collier, 1918, Sculpture after treatment
During the summer 2011, the sculpture was treated by the sculptor conservator, Rolf Fritschi.
First, dust and superficial deposits were removed using hot steam. The surface was then cleaned with a neutral soap and afterwards, rinsed with de-ionised water.
In certain protected areas, where the surface of the sculpture was the grainy and irregular, it required mechanical manipulation and was compacted using a scalpel.

The surfaces were retouched where necessary to integrate old, corroded, green drip marks using acrylic resin colours (Lascaux).
- Detail of the right hand after treatment
A protective surface-coating containing micro-crystalline wax (Cosmoloid 80H in Sangagjol) was applied to the slightly-heated bronze surface. After cooling down, the wax was lightly polished to create a denser protective coating.
