Conservation

The conservation department’s main goal is to apply precautionary and preventive measures in order to avoid damage and to create the ideal conditions for the artworks – for example by stretching works on canvas and by mounting works on paper in mats. Notwithstanding all the attention and care, materials age and decompose: colors fade or darken, support materials such as wood, canvas, paper and photo paper can tear, while paper and fabrics yellow and become brittle, and no matter what, artworks dirty and change thus demanding treatment.
