Supplément Dada

20 May - 24 July 2016

After the major exhibition to launch Dada’s anniversary year, from 20 May to 31 July 2016 the Kunsthaus presents ‘New and Surprising Items from the Collection: Supplément Dada’, a special presentation of Dada works normally confined to the archives and store rooms - curated by Raimund Meyer. The collection – held in the city that gave birth to the movement – is one of the most important in the world. We’ll be bringing out into the daylight some pieces that, for conservation reasons, are rarely if ever lent out. Some of the most recent acquisitions will also be receiving their first public showing. They include a screen print by Marcel Janco from the 1970s: his recreation of the ‘Cabaret Voltaire’ painting that has been lost since 1924. As with the Dadaist ‘Société pour l’exploitation du vocabulaire dadaïste’, the aim is to offer a free and playful take on the treasures in our care. The only figure missing will be ‘funny guy’ Francis Picabia, who is being exhibited in his full glory in our large exhibition gallery at the same time.
