Kunsthaus Zürich

Special display: Félix Vallotton

Until 7 January 2018, collection galleries, 2nd floor, Moser building

To mark the acquisition of a key early work by Félix Vallotton – ‘La Malade’ from 1892 – by the Zürcher Kunstfreunde, the Kunsthaus presents a major display of Vallottons from the collection, which runs until the start of October. Ranging from the early, large-format 1885 painting ‘Monsieur Ursenbach’ to the late ‘Femme nue tenant un livre’ from 1924, it covers the entirety of Vallotton’s artistic career. Together with the new acquisition, the interiors make up a group of unique density. The luminous yet cool landscapes, the figure paintings and the portraits are also represented, with outstanding examples on show, as is his unique and legendary image of the fountain of youth, ‘Bain au soir d’été’ from 1892, the same year as ‘La Malade’. A beach landscape, ‘Bateaux à Nice’, bequeathed to the Kunsthaus by Dieter Hanhart in 2017, complements this multifaceted group of works.
