The selection of French nineteenth-century painting focuses on the Impressionists and their forerunners. The Kunsthaus collection includes at least one important painting by Géricault, Delacroix, Corot, Courbet and Manet. The Blacksmith, originally a shop sign, combines baroque passion with the revolutionary pathos of Géricault’s best works to create one of the earliest depictions of the humble craftsman as heroic individual.
