Are We Contemporary?

Discussion about what it means to be 'contemporary' in a globalised (art) world

The evening is divided into two parts: Cultural geographer Julie Ren will give a 30-minute lecture entitled 'Unhinged Temporalities: Urban Futurity and Contemporary Art Biennials'. Afterwards, the panelists will discuss questions such as 'Being contemporary in globalisation: does this imply a (certain form of) history or rather a continuous movement, a synchronised understanding of the present?'.

Panel discussion with Burkhard Meltzer (Zurich University of the Arts ZHdK), Matheus Rocha Pitta (artist, Berlin), Julie Ren (Senior Scientist, Department of Geography UZH) and Fatma Shanan (artist, Julis, Tel Aviv and Zurich), moderated by Cathérine Hug (curator, Kunsthaus Zurich).
